A recent Rock Art Talk held at the Museum, titled "𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒖𝒎 𝒕𝒐 𝑴𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑱𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝑩𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝑹𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝑨𝒓𝒕" showcased how museums play a significant role in preservation and connecting the past with the future, perfectly imbodying this year's International Museum Day theme “𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒖𝒎𝒔 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅”.
This insightful talk explored the latest research by Dr Ghilraen Laue, Dr Justine Wintjes and Stephen Wessels, illustrating how archival detective work, field visits, photography, and 3D modelling are helping to trace the histories of displaced artworks and, through the use of these techniques and technologies, can be virtually returned to their original rock shelters.
