
Raising awareness on the importance of mother languages in education! The KwaZulu-Natal Museum's Education outreach team, celebrated International Mother Language Day at Ekhamanzi Primary School, located in the remote area of the uMshwathi Local Municipality.
With indigenous languages under threat worldwide due to globalization, the visit to Ekhamanzi Primary School, placed emphasis on UNESCO's mission of safeguarding linguistic diversity, promoting multilingualism and cultural diversity.The days celebrations included interactive games and performances such as amaHubo, indlamu, izaga nezisho (Zulu Idioms) and guess the langauge, which encouraged the learners to express themselves in their native language.
