The KwaZulu-Natal Museum has successfully received and transferred an important mollusc collection from the McGregor Museum, marking a significant step in strengthening South Africa’s natural history resources.

This achievement was made possible through the generous support of the Natural Science Collections Facility (NSCF), which funded the relocation costs. Their contribution underscores the importance of investing in the preservation and accessibility of scientific collections.

The acquired specimens, representing years of dedicated collecting, hold valuable taxonomic, ecological, and historical information. Now housed within one of the largest mollusc collections in the Southern Hemisphere, they will benefit from enhanced curation, improved accessibility, and integration into ongoing research.

The collection is now ready to be catalogued and incorporated into the KwaZulu-Natal Museum’s database, to support research in systematics, biodiversity, and conservation.
