Geoff joined the Human Sciences Department at the museum in 2018. He has previously held positions and fellowships at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Uppsala University in Sweden, the Origins Centre, Rock Art Research Institute, School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies all at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. His research has focused on the politics of archaeological representation in the public sphere and on the role of rock art in the production of Khoisan history.
