KZN Museum frontline staff attended a two day Customer Relationship Management training course, facilitated by Victor Sibeko, CEO of the Public Relations Institute of South Africa. 

The KZN Museum is definitely the place to visit this end of term break. The Museum has ensured two weeks of fun activities to make sure no one will be bored during the holiday! From the 18 - 22 March the Museum will be hosting a free Book Swap from 10am - 2pm each day. In celebration of Library Week the public is invited to visit the Museum and pick up a book or two, completely free of charge. You can also drop off any unwanted books to the Museum before or during the event. All books, in good condition, will be accepted. 

Samukelisiwe Ngubane, Information Officer at the KwaZulu-Natal Museum is busy trying out the different crafts in readiness for the March Holiday Programme. The programme will run from the 25 - 29 March from 9am - 11am each day. The cost is R 25 per day and the activities are suitable for young children between the ages of 5 - 13 years. Activities include fun interactive sessions about bees and mosquitos, including craft activities, learn about flightless birds and make a chicken pom pom, Easter craft activities and rock art painting. Part of the KZN Museum’s Educational Outreach Programme focuses on providing environmental education and CAPS aligned Life Science Content to local communities and schools in Ndwedwe, ILembe Municipality respectively. The outreach programme will be a collaborative effort between the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), Department of Agriculture and Rural development (DARD) and the KZN Museum. On the 28th February 2019, Marsha Kalika met with the three officials from each of these departments to discuss the planning of the outreach in terms of scope with regards to local communities and schools. 

As part of the programme Greg Gopal from the school publication Exam Fever, will be donating just over 2000 Natural Science and Life Science books for distribution to schools in the Ndwedwe area, initiating the programme on a positive note. The programme will be centred on environmental awareness for local communities and sustainable CAPS aligned activities that offer stimulating environments for learners from Grades 10-12 thus, enhancing science and promoting optimal learning. As a collaborative effort, the team aims to assist learners and surrounding communities in addressing environmental concerns through research and finding practical recommendations. STEMI activities will complement classroom content and focus on FET science based learners with the aim of reaching 10 schools for the year of 2019. This outreach and collaborative effort aims to share knowledge, encourage and inspire careers in science in and amongst the youth. 

At the Traditional Healers Forum held on the 19/03/2019 Marsha Kalika, Chief Education Officer - Outreach, presented a talk on "Creating sustainable clean electricity utilising vegetables" and "Filtration is Purification" was discussed and demonstrated. The Museum will visit the area on a weekly basis, visiting 2-3 schools each week and CAPS aligned STEMI activities will be facilitated to Grades 10-12 learners.
