Arbour Week

The KZN Museum Education Dept. participated in celebrating Arbour Week during the 1st week of September. Our outreach team visited schools in the rural areas and assisted them to set up vegetable gardens, in partnership with Cedara Agricultural College. Our team also educated the learners about the importance of Arbour Week and also donated trees to schools for planting.

Speech Competition

The KwaZulu-Natal Museum hosted a Speech Competition at the Museum yesterday, targeted at Grade 10 & 11 history learners. Learners were invited to address the topic “TO WHAT EXTENT AS SOUTH AFRICANS ARE WE LIVING TO THE VALUES THAT NELSON MANDELA STOOD FOR? “ Of the schools that attended, one learner from each school did a 10 minute presentation. The panel of adjudicators comprised Ms Quigley and Ms Mkhize, both publishers from Shuter and Shooter, Ms Dlamini, a subject advisor from the department of education as well as Dr Geoff Blundell, Head of our Human Sciences department at the KZN Museum. The top 5 learners were Njoko Simlindile (Nsikayethu Secondary); Madlala Lindokuhle (St John Paul II); Twayinga Onelisa (Kharina Secondary); Xulu Nomali (Masjabule High); Ndlovu Nokulunga (Georgetown High) Dumisani Jali from the KZN Museum Education Department and were all rewarded with an all-expense paid trip to Robben Island Museum in Cape Town, during the September school holidays, on a learning programme. #mandela100#kznmuseum

Did you know that the KZN Museum has two venues that can be hired for meetings/workshops/conferences and even birthday parties? We cater for large or small groups, for various types of gatherings at very affordable rates.

The John Pringle Hall accommodates up to 200 people seated in cinema style and the Ingede (lecture) Theatre seats around 60 people comfortably.
