Posthumously-published paper by Professor Thomas N. Huffman available as open access

The 2022 edition of the KwaZulu-Natal Museum published journal, Southern African Humanities (Vol. 35), opens with a significant research article on the origins of the Tshivenda, as seen in the archaeological record. The article was written by Professor Thomas N. Huffman of the University of the Witwatersrand, a leading scholar in African Iron Age research. Tom, as he was known to colleagues and friends, passed away in 2022 before his paper was published.

The editorial team of Southern African Humanities worked hard to make changes recommended by referees and to bring the paper to fruition. Members of the museum’s Department of Human Sciences are also working on seeing the last book written by Tom through to publication. Tom’s book will appear soon as part of the museum’s Occasional Publication Series. To mark the last paper published in Tom’s extraordinarily prolific and profound intellectual career in the African past, the KwaZulu-Natal Museum together with its commercial partner SABINET, have made the paper open access. It is available free to anyone at the following links:
