Marsha Kalika, Chief Education Officer: Outreach from the KZN Museum, has once again scooped an award at the annual Scifest 2019 which was held in Grahamstown last week. She received the award for “Best Workshop: Outreach” after presenting her workshop on Filtration is Purification. The theme this year was “Discover your Element” and Ms Kalika presented to high schools in Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth as well as at the East London Museum. Her presentation was on a home-made filtration system that is based on the soil profile, using rock, stones and sand. The only addition to the system was the activated charcoal which removes poisons from the water. The benefit of this home filtration system is ensuring that water is safe for drinking.
