The KZN Museum's Education Department outreach team visited Dindi Primary School (Elandskop) recently for World Read Aloud Day. The aim of the visit was to motivate the learners and adults present, to read. It is estimated that about 78% of grade 4 pupils in this country struggle with reading. It is our aim as the KZN Museum to play our part in motivating and encouraging a culture of reading for enjoyment and understanding. Reading develops the mind and by encouraging young children to read helps them to develop their language skills, improves verbal proficiency of children and grow their imagination. This initiative is celebrated globally, more than 170 countries participate in World Read Aloud Day including South Africa.
