10th International Congress of Dipterology
The International Congress of Dipterology (ICD) is usually held every four years, but due to Covid it was postponed by a year and held in July 2023 in Reno, Nevada in the USA. The KwaZulu-Natal Museum was represented by Dr John Midgley and Dr Kirstin Williams from the Natural Science Department. The only other South African attending the congress was Cassandra Barker, a PhD student from Stellenbosch. The congress is an opportunity for researchers from around the world who work on flies, to get together to share their research. Dr Midgley and Dr Williams both presented two talks at the congress on their current work โ Dr Midgley on hover flies and Dr Williams on horse flies and flesh flies. Dr Midgley also had several poster presentations. The congress is a good opportunity to network and develop new collaborations and despite the advantages of being able to meet digitally, nothing beats being able to socialize in person with your colleagues from all over the world!
