In early June, Marlize Lombard and Bronwen van Doornum attended the first workshop of the newly-formed Museum Archaeology Working Group (MAWG), held in Bloemfontein.

This workshop brought together representatives from institutions across South Africa, including the Albany Museum (Grahamstown), Iziko South African Museum (Cape Town), Lydenburg Museum, McGregor Museum (Kimberley), National Cultural History Museum (Pretoria), National Museum (Bloemfontein), the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) (Cape Town) and of course the Natal Museum. The idea behind MAWG is to provide a forum where a wide range of museum archaeology issues, from collections management to research, can be discussed and promoted on a national level. We look forward to further problem-solving, spirited discussions and communication between our various institutions. |
